Tiger Cub stampede

Wednesday, August 17, 2011
Dozens of students streaming from the buses to Greencastle Middle School was the closest Greencastle Community Schools came to a traffic jam on Tuesday. With construction continuing on the Percy Julian Drive, school officials had been dreading the possibility of long lines and delays Tuesday. The problems never materialized. "We asked that whoever could ride the bus would ride the bus," Superintendent Lori Richmond said. "They must have done that because we had nowhere near the cars I was told have been here in the past." The superintendent credited the administrators and staff of the two schools for developing plans and keeping things moving properly throughout the morning and afternoon sessions.

  • Time requirements and performance bonds are in place on this project from what I remember reading before. Also they ran into other issues. Lets get the Job correct and just stay away from the area if you do not need to travel to and from the school area during the times it Gets Busy!

    Give it the time needed.

  • I agree, we should make them put the road back the way it was when they started, give the money back and leave town. I mean what other options are there? Construction projects almost never run into problems and always finish on time. Too bad burning at the stake was removed from business contracts several hundred years ago. I mean what other options do we have? Let them finish, that's not right.

  • That goes for those soulless city officials that cleverly consorted with the construction company in their evil plan to delay the finishing of this project until after school started..... really is that what Mr. Beenadick wants us all to believe.... that the city didn't seek to contractually hold the company responsible for a due date, that they gave no thought nor worried about the project being done before school... is that a rational belief?

  • It's for the safety and welfare of the kids. I heard there's a wonderful sidewalk going in. It'll be done when it's done and you can find something else to whine about.

  • Mr. Benedick,

What observations have you made that lead you to the conclusion this work is substandard or not up to code or building regulations other than it is late in being finished. What are the specifics of what constitutes a bad job other than a grumpy attitude.

  • Way to go GHS ! You take all the bennifits away from your employee's becuase of no money ! But you have the money for a new sign !

  • The sign came from donations that Mr. Hesler has been collecting for something like 20 years. It has absolutely nothing to do with funds from which salaries and benefits (nice spelling, by the way) are taken.

  • Why is everyone so quick to make derogatory public comments as if they know the facts when in truth they don't have a clue what is going on.
