Claude E. Boswell, 91, of Greencastle, passed away Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011 at Asbury Towers.

Claude was born to the late Oscar and Marie (Martin) Boswell on March 30, 1920 in Brick Chapel, just north of Greencastle.

He served in the Conservation Corps before enlisting in the U.S. Army. He served with the 28th Division, 112th Infantry group during World War II and was a part of several major campaigns including the Normandy Invasion of D-Day, the Battle of the Bulge and throughout France and Germany.

He retired after 35 years from DePauw University, where he worked as a fireman at the university's heat plant.

Claude is survived by his daughters, Darlene (Daniel) Morris of Greenwood and Carolyn Sue (Larry) Newman of Carbon; three grandchildren, Geoff (Jennifer) Morris, Nell Anne Holechko and Jason (Crystal) Dean; eight great-grandchildren Jalynne, Braelyn and Kaden Morris, Noah and Nola Dean and Brittney, Brianna and Paul Allen Holechko; his loving companion Margaret Nelson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Eula Burnell; his ex-wife Mary; his brothers Ernie, Pete and Rex; and his sisters Viola, Kate, Flossie, Reva, Hazel, June and Betty.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 22 at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Taylor officiating. Burial with full military rites will be at the Brick Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 11 a.m. until time of services.

The family has requested in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Claude's memory to the Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Rd., Ste 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256.
