Brazil Concert Band slates 'grand finale' Sunday

BRAZIL -- The Brazil Concert Band, under the direction of Matthew S. Huber, will present "Grand Finale 2011" Sunday, Aug. 28 at the special time of 7:30 p.m. in Forest Park rain or shine.

The Sudler Award-winning BCB will offer "Second Suite in F" by Gustav Holst, Henry Fillmore's transcription of "Poet and Peasant Overture" and the sensational Broadway hit "Phantom of the Opera" by Andrew Lloyd Webber in a setting by Warren Barker.

A final salute to the soldiers, both North and South, who fought in the Civil War will come from "Columbia Grand Patriotic Potpourri" by George Barnard.

Karl L. King's waltz, "In Old Portugal" is slated as is "Irish Songs for Solo and Band" arranged by Robert Smith and will feature Bandsman T. J. Sneddon as vocal soloist.

The BCB will perform "Sells-Floto Triumphal" by King, "Quality-plus" by Jewell," "Americans, We" by Fillmore and will open and close the show with "Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company" and "The Stars and Stripes Forever" by John Philip Sousa.

This season marks Director Huber's 30th year as leader of the BCB.

The fall performance by the Brazil Concert Band will be Nov. 20, beginning at 3 p.m. at the Scottish Rite, 8th and Ohio streets, Terre Haute.
