Cloverdale driver escapes injury in I-70 crash that killed Indy man
PLAINFIELD -- A 22-year-old Indianapolis man, reportedly riding his motorcycle the wrong way on Interstate 70 late Friday night, was fatally injured in a collision with a pickup truck driven by a Putnam County man.
Indiana State Police reported that Jeremy M. Deboy was operating a 1997 Yamaha 600R motorcycle eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-70 near the 67-mile marker in Hendricks County.
At approximately 10:15 p.m., the motorcycle struck a westbound 2000 Chevrolet pickup truck head-on near Ronald Reagan Parkway, investigators said.
Roger D. Overstreet, 54, Cloverdale, was driving the pickup truck and escaped injury in the I-70 accident, police said.
Deboy was pronounced dead at the scene by the Hendricks County Coroner's Office.
According to Indianapolis media reports, the accident was the result of a police chase that began in Morgantown in Morgan County and ended with the fatal crash near the Indianapolis Airport.
A female passenger was reportedly injured after falling off the motorcycle near Plainfield. Authorities said she suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Both the police pursuit and the fatal accident remain under investigation.
The fatality closed all lanes of westbound I-70 for approximately three hours into early Saturday morning while the crash scene was investigated and the wreckage removed. Eastbound I-70 was also briefly closed immediately following the accident.
