Cougars prep for upcoming conference

ROACHDALE -- The Lady Cougars played on Aug. 25 against Danville and Monrovia. Danville, always being a tough competitor, won the meet shooting a very low score of 184. Monrovia shot a 223 and North Putnam shot a 230.

The Lady Cougars continue to struggle with their short game, but showed great improvement in lowering penalty shots and decreasing the number of putts.

The scheduled South Putnam meet for Aug. 23 had to be postponed until August 29 due to thunderstorms.

Going into the South Putnam meet the Lady Cougars felt they were very competitive with the Eagles. Several of the players who scored high at Danville lowered their score against South Putnam, but then those who were low at Danville increased scores against South Putnam.

Currently all players are struggling back and forth with their short game and long game. There were lots of great fairway shots against South Putnam but once again putting hurt the Lady Cougars.

The final score for the meet was South Putnam 227 and North Putnam 236.

The Cougars headed into their Aug. 30 meet into unknown territory. Playing at Tomahawk Hills in Jamestown for the first time ever proved to be challenging.

A much improved short game for several of the players helped keep the score low, however, many great tee shots and fairway shots turned out to be trouble on some of the blind holes.

Overall, the team is beginning to feel more comfortable about their game. North Putnam scored a 239 with Tri-West winning the meet with a 211 and Crawfordsville came in second place with a 223.

As the Lady Cougars near the end of the season, they will strive hard to continue to improve their play around the green and decreasing putts. The team knows that they have to decrease their team scores by at least 20 strokes to win meets.

The Lady Cougars will play against Cascade and Plainfield on today and the last regular meet of the season will be against Western Boone on September 13.

Head coach Linda Patrick has been out of town, but boys' head coach Nathan Martindale has stepped in to assist with the coaching duties.

The Cougars will be at the WCC conference on September 10, the county tournament on September 15, and then sectionals on Sept. 17.
