Greencastle to begin hydrant flushing efforts Tuesday evening

Monday, September 19, 2011

Fire hydrants in the City of Greencastle will undergo a series of flushing operations beginning Tuesday, Sept. 20, city officials said.

Ed Phillips of the City Water Department announced that flushing efforts will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday on the north and west sides of Greencastle.

Four city crews will tackle the flushing operation, moving south and east through town.

Phillips expects the crews to work their way over to Bloomington Street by the end of the first night.

Efforts will continue Wednesday evening and again Thursday if necessary, Phillips said.

Any discoloration to residents' water should clear up shortly, Phillips said. If it does not, residents are asked to call 653-5812.

Phillips said the flushing is essentially routine maintenance generally undertaken a couple times a year.
