Tzouanakis runners race at South Knox

The Tzouanakis cross country team had its first ever meet Saturday at South Knox. The runners in grades third through fifth battled 21 teams in the middle school division.

For the girls, Emma Wilson was the top finisher, placing second with a time of 12:24. Seeley Stoffregen was third overall with at time of 13:04,with Sydney Lewis was eighth with a time of 13:52.

Also running for the team were Gretchen Weliever (15:32), Brooke Sieg (15:43), Mika Mozawa (15:34), Kaylynn Hankins (16:18), Pierston Young (18:50), Mable Lewis (24:29).

The boys ran strong, with two setting person records during the meet. The times were Jack Riggles (15:43), Dayan Martinez (16:42) and Tyler Hopper (17:20).

"I know as coaches, coach Bobby Hopper and myself were excited and proud of the kids for the courae and fearlessness with which they all showed at the meet," coach Art Dwigans said.

He said the parents were also very supportive, traveling two hours for Saturday's meet.

The runners will next compete this Saturday at the Putnam County Fairgrounds.
