Millstones review, musical program at museum Oct. 7

Sunday, October 2, 2011

On Friday, Oct. 7 at 6 p.m., Richard Taylor will present "A Review of The Millstones" at the Putnam County Museum.

The program is free and open to the public.

Taylor plays the vibes, a musical instrument in the percussion family that closely resembles a xylophone, but uses aluminum bars instead of the wooden bars of the traditional xylophone.

He will be playing his vibes as well as discussing the history of The Millstones, a Putnam County staple at music gigs from the 1960s through the early '90s.

"We are really excited to continue and expand our 'Notes and Beats' exhibits with great programs like this that will bring to life some of the exhibit information," Chris Shuck, exhibit chairman, said.

"This is a great opportunity not only to learn about the vibes and The Millstones, but also to check out the exhibit and learn more about the musical history of our county."

For more information, persons may contact Tanis Monday, director of the Putnam County Museum, at 653-8419.
