Fall concerts Thursday, Monday for Cloverdale musicians

The Cloverdale High School Emerald Command Marching Band recently captured "The Peoples' Choice" and Outstanding Guard unit awards at the Martinsville Invitational.

CLOVERDALE -- The Cloverdale Schools Music Department has been active in preparing for a variety of upcoming events.

The High School Choir members participated in a Combined Choir of more than 300 voices at a festival at Shakamak High School.

The Middle School Music Department will be presenting a Fall Concert on Thursday, Oct 13. The concert begins at 7 p.m. and will feature the fifth-grade recorders, sixth-grade Beginning Band, grade 7-8 choir, and grade 7-8 band.

The program will be presented at the middle school cafeteria stage. Admission is free and the public is encouraged to attend.

The Cloverdale High School Music Department will present a Fall Concert on Monday, Oct 17 beginning at 7 p.m. in the CHS cafetorium.

Groups performing will include the Women's Ensemble, Mixed Choir and Concert Band. The Concert Band will be attending the Combined Putnam County band rehearsal during the day on Oct. 18 with a concert at 7 p.m. in Kresge Auditorium on the DePauw University campus. Guest conductor for the group will be Doug Keiser of Indiana State University.

The Emerald Command marching band has been enthusiastically supporting the school's varsity football team at home games. They will be joined by the grade 7-8 band for the final home game, Oct. 14. The total number of instrumentalist will be close to 100 musicians performing together.

The award-winning band had a successful performance at the Martinsville Fall Festival parade and won "The People's Choice" and "Outstanding Guard" awards at the Martinsville Invitational. The band offered a special thanks to Angie Raisor for her work with the guard members.

In addition, the group earned three gold ratings at a recent Indiana State School Music Association Festival Class contest at Franklin High School, marking the successful conclusion to their competitive marching season.

Debbie Lambert is the choir director. William Cole is the band director.

"Many thanks to all the student participants, Drum Majors Hannah Ramey, Tyler Carrell and Jacob Williams," Cole said. "A big thank you for the support the group received from parents, bus drivers and staff. Thanks also to the Cloverdale administration for the opportunity to participate in these activities."
