Letter to the Editor

Friends of Library are friends indeed

Wednesday, October 19, 2011

To the Editor:

October 16-22, 2011, is the fifth annual celebration of National Friends of Libraries Week, making it a good time to publicly thank the Friends of the Putnam County Public Library, who contribute so much of their time and expertise to significantly enhance our services.

We are fortunate to have this energetic and enthusiastic organization. They are a major asset to the library by their program support, fundraising, volunteering and advocacy.

Through their tireless efforts in the book sale room as well as other fundraisers, they provide generous support to more than 60 library programs, including summer and winter reading programs, a free book to each child at the Halloween party, bookmarks and the library newsletter.

In addition, the Friends sponsor enriching programs such as the Valentine's Day party with Indiana University music professor Glenn Gass and, without their partnership, the Imagination Library would not have become a reality.

Their commitment helps the library to remain the vibrant center of activity and ideas that it is today. We are thankful for their numerous hours in support of the library's mission, their strong commitment to reading, and the fundraising they do on behalf of our public library.

They truly are the library's friends.
