Counting cars, buses too

Friday, October 21, 2011
Several traffic counters were spotted around Putnam County recently, including three sets between the courthouse and the viaduct at the north edge of Greencastle. The traffic counters, however, aren't harbingers of coming road construction or traffic signals. They were set in place by the Crawfordsville District of the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) to count and calculate average daily traffic numbers for all state and federal highway road segments. The counts are done on a three-year cycle, INDOT officials said.
