COVINGTON -- North Putnam picked up its first win of the season in girls' hoops action, defeating Covington 49-46 on the road Tuesday.

The Cougars got a big performance from LeeAnn Davis and Kensy Asbell. Davis scored 12 and Asbell 11 for North Putnam. Bethany Wiatt chipped in seven points in the win.

"We had very good balanced scoring," North Putnam head coach Jim Brothers said. "We got to the free throw line 26 times and converted only 12. That two games in a row where we've gotten to the line a lot. We just have to convert the free throws once we get there. But we're going a good job of getting the ball inside.

"Our defense played pretty well. We out-rebounded Covington by nine and we just had a good team win," he added.

North Putnam takes on Greencastle in the opening game of the Putnam County Tournament at South Putnam. Tip-off is slated for 6:30 p.m.
