Putnam County youth earned top honors among the nation's most knowledgeable 4-H Horse Program members during the 2011 Eastern National 4-H Horse Roundup, an annual event hosted by the North American International Livestock Exposition (NAILE) in Louisville.

Indiana's Judging Team earned eighth in the halter portion, fifth in the reasons portion and 10th place overall out of 24 competing teams from across the country.

Putnam team members are Bailey Goff, Emily Gilley, Lauren Gutschlag and Marie Brady. Brady also achieved a sixth-place individual finish in the halter division.

Other contests during the Eastern National 4-H Horse Roundup were Public Speaking, Individual Presentation, Team Presentation, Horse Bowl, and Horse Judging. All contestants must be 14 to 19 years old and qualified for the competition by earning top honors at their state 4-H horse contest.

"We were honored to represent the state of Indiana at this prestigious event." said Lisa Pitts, coach of the local team. "I couldn't be more proud of all the hard work and effort these young ladies put into preparing for this contest, and I am thrilled with their accomplishments."
