Bedford L. Mitchell

Bedford L. Mitchell, 79, Cloverdale, passed away on Dec. 4, 2011 at the Richard L. Roudebush Medical Center, Indianapolis.

He was born on Jan. 5, 1932 in Indianapolis and was the son of the late William Andrew and Bertha Alice (McGuire) Mitchell.

He was married to Zora Belle (Blonk) Mitchell on Dec. 11, 1954, and she survives.

He is also survived by his children, Neva Alice Strange and husband Fred, Newell, Ala., Mary Rader and husband Daniel, Greencastle, William Hubert Mitchell and wife Deborah, Sylvania, Ga., and Edward LeRoy Mitchell and wife Jane, Poland; 17 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

He was a retired truck driver for PIE Freight, Indianapolis. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict.

He attended the One Less Pentecost Church. He was a member of Teamsters Local 135, Indianapolis, helped organize the Putnam County Civil Defense and was a charter member of the Putnamville Lions Club.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson,

Edward LeRoy Mitchell Jr.; his sisters, Mary Frances Mitchell and Ruby Burns; and his brothers, Catley Mitchell and James M. Mitchell.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10 at the Whitaker Funeral Home, Cloverdale.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9 at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Mannan Cemetery.
