JoAnne Schlegel, 73, of Greencastle, formerly of Clay City, passed away Dec. 6, 2011 at The Waters of Greencastle.

She was born Feb. 27, 1938 in Bowling Green, the daughter of Harold Stwalley and Hazel Allee Stwalley.

She graduated from Bowling Green High School.

She worked for IBM Corp. and Heartland Industries in the cleaning and maintenance department. She also worked for several sororities at DePauw University.

She was a member of the Bowling Green United Methodist Church.

She enjoyed being a homemaker, cooking and spending time with family.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Gene Ray Schlegel, whom she married June 8, 1956; daughter Teresa Childers and husband Jim; grandchildren Kyle Thompson and wife Jordan of Plainfield and Klynt Thompson and wife Ashley of Clay City; brothers Benny Swalley and wife Bonnie of Brownsburg and Roy Kay Swalley and wife Erma of Plainfield; several nieces, nephews and extended family.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, Clay City, with Pastor William Best officiating.

Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association or to the Horizon Hospice Care Inc., 7 N. Washington St. Danville, IN 46122. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
