Paul W. Gibbs, 74, Monticello, died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011 at the Indiana Veterans Home of West Lafayette.

Born Feb. 13, 1937 in Sellersburg, Ind., he was the son of Paul G. and Alean (Bagshaw) Gibbs.

Paul had lived in the Monticello community since 1996, coming from Delphi, Ind. He grew up in Roachdale.

He married Sharon D. Buchanan on May 11, 1955 in Dillon, S.C., and she preceded him in death June 25, 1999.

Paul was a U.S. Army veteran, proudly serving in the 82nd Airborne. He was a retired semi truck driver. Paul drove a truck from 1970-1997.

He loved playing poker with his family and watching westerns, especially John Wayne movies. Paul used to enjoy going hunting and fishing.

Survivors include a daughter, Susan L. (husband Rex) Stern, Delphi; three sons, Paul D. Gibbs, Yeoman, Ind., and Michael W. Gibbs Sr. (companion Becky Jacobs) and David N. Gibbs, both of Delphi; three sisters, Ruth Ann Kruse, Brazil, Linda L. Walls, Ladoga, and Melba J. (husband Danny) Thomas, Greencastle; three brothers, Michael R. (wife Darlene) Gibbs, Poland, and Ronald L. (wife Melanie) Gibbs and Melvin L. (wife Teresa) Gibbs, both of Greencastle; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his father, Paul G. Gibbs; his mother and stepfather, Alaen Gibbs Cain and husband Harley; a son, Gary L. Gibbs; and a grandson, Michael W. Gibbs Jr.

Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10 at Miller-Roscka Funeral Home, Monticello. Pastor Timothy I. Stewart of the Delphi Pentecostal Church will officiate.

Burial will be in the IOOF Riverview Cemetery, rural Monticello, with full military rites by the Honor Guard of the American Legion, VFW and AmVets Post, all of Monticello.

Visitation will be Saturday, Dec. 10 from noon until time of services at 3 p.m. at Miller-Roscka Funeral Home, Monticello.

Memorials can be made to the American Heart Association or to the American Diabetes Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
