Local schools hosting holiday tournaments

With the Christmas holiday rapidly approaching, two local schools will be hosting tournament to coincide with the season.

First up will be the Greencastle Holiday Wrestling Tournament Dec. 17 at 9 a.m. Last year the Tiger Cubs went a perfect 4-0 to win the tournament. Other schools that competed were Sullivan, South Vermillion, Covington and Monrovia.

South Putnam will hold its annual two-day Eagle Holiday Sports Festival featuring a little something for everyone.

The Eagle Wrestling Invitational gets things going at 9 a.m. Thursday Dec. 29. In addition to the Eagles, Attica, Sullivan, Turkey Run and Western Boone will be competing.

The Eagle Medley Swim Invite will also take place on Dec. 29 with South Putnam, Cascade, Owen Valley, Speedway and West Vigo competing. Action will begin at 10 a.m.

The Junior varsity boys' basketball team will host Cloverdale, Cascade and North Vermillion in the JV Tournament. Cloverdale and Cascade kick things off in game one at 9:30 a.m. with South Putnam and North Vermillion to follow. The consolation game and championship games will follow. The JV tournament will take place at Central Elementary.

Later that night, the varsity boys' team will host the Cadets, Clovers and the Falcons. The Clovers and Cadets will play at 6 p.m., with the Eagles and Falcons to follow. The consolation and championship games will be Friday beginning at 6 p.m. The games will take place at South Putnam High School.

The varsity girls' tournament will feature South Putnam, Turkey Run, Eminence and Rockville on Dec. 30. In game one, the Eagles and Turkey Run will start at 9:30 a.m., with Eminence and Rockville to follow. The consolation and championship games will take place after. The varsity will play their games at the high school.

The junior varsity girls will play their games at Central Elementary in the same order and times as the varsity match-ups.

The Thursday $4 morning entry price includes admission to swimming, wrestling and the junior varsity boys' tournament. The $5 entry price for the girls' tournament includes admission to both varsity and junior varsity games. The boys' basketball tournament is $5 for each night. All Sports passes will not be accepted during the Holiday Festival.
