Rising waters close State Road 42 in Morgan County

CRAWFORDSVILLE -- Putnam County drivers are advised that rising waters have caused the closure of roads in the surrounding area.

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) Crawfordsville District has announced that State Road 42 in Morgan County, seven miles east of Cloverdale and U.S. 231, was closed by water at the 40-mile marker.

The road closure, announced Friday morning by INDOT, will remain in effect until waters recede.

Also closed due to flooding in Tippecanoe County are State Road 43 (from I-65 to State Road 443) and State Road 225 (between State Road 25 and Battle Ground).

When encountering a flooded roadway, INDOT urges drivers to turn around and not drive through standing water.

According to the National Weather Service, six inches of standing water is enough to cause passenger cars to stall and a foot of water will float many vehicles.
