Wandering Wednesdays combine fun, education for area youth

Thursday, January 19, 2012

Do your children need a mid-week pick-me-up when February rolls around? Then Wandering Wednesdays may be just the right fit.

The new Wandering Wednesday program is a joint effort of the Greencastle Parks and Recreation Department, Public County Public Library and Putnam County Museum.

"We decided to combine our resources and creativity in order to give Putnam County children something special to look forward to every Wednesday in February," explained Tanis Monday, executive director of the Putnam County Museum.

"Kids will get snacks, crafts, fun -- and learn something new and interesting," she added.

Each week's program will begin at 4 p.m. and end by 5:30. The fee for most programs is $5 per youth participant.

The program is targeted at school age children in grades K-5, but any age child is welcome.

Wandering Wednesday programs are:

Wednesday, Feb. 1 -- Visit the Putnam County Museum and learn about ghost hunting from the experts at ISPI. Location: Putnam County Museum.

Wednesday, Feb. 8 -- Join the Greencastle Parks and Recreation staff as they make ink disappear and reappear ... and maybe a few other things. Location: Deer Meadow School cafeteria.

Wednesday, Feb. 15 --Join the library staff as they welcome a magician into their midst. Location: Putnam County Library, Kiwanis Room. Free.

Wednesday, Feb. 22 -- Join the museum as it welcomes nature and explores its mysteries. Why don't mushrooms always come up in the same place? Location: Putnam County Museum.

Wednesday, Feb. 29 -- Join the library staff and Greencastle Parks and Recreation Department, watch them turn a ball into ice cream, and then make it disappear. And learn a little more about Feb. 29. Why does it keep showing up on the calendar, but not every year? Location: Putnam County Library, Kiwanis Room.

Enrollment forms are available at Greencastle City Hall, Putnam County Museum on North Jackson Street, and the Putnam County Library.
