County Jail

Two people were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* On Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 10:50 a.m. Amanda Jo Kelley, 25, Terre Haute, was arrested for failure to appear in court.

* On Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 5:30 a.m. Shane Allen Stephens, 21, Terre Haute, was housed at the jail for operating while intoxicated.

City Police

The theft of a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, valued at $10,000, was investigated late Tuesday by Greencastle City Police officers.

The brown 2005 motorcycle was taken from the parking lot at the Greencastle American Legion Post at 1401 Indianapolis Rd.

Brian Hemmerling, Greencastle, reported that the bike, registered to Amanda Lytle, Greencastle, was taken between 8:30 and 11:10 p.m. Tuesday. Hemmerling had ridden the bike to the Legion building.

The Harley, which bears Indiana license plate M117FF, has a windshield and two black saddle bags, police said.

Meanwhile, a Greencastle man is facing theft charges after a reported shoplifting incident Tuesday night at the Walmart supercenter.

Weilhelm Heinrish Minartz, 30, was arrested at 8:26 p.m. and lodged in the Putnam County Jail after the vehicle in which he was a passenger was stopped in the 1200 block of Bloomington Street by Officer Eric Vaughan.

Walmart personnel had obtained the plate number of the vehicle after Minartz reportedly left the store with $62.27 in stolen property.

Authorities said the suspect took cough and cold medicine and jewelry, putting the items in his pockets and under his shirt. The items were still concealed in that manner when Minartz was stopped, police said.

A one-vehicle accident resulted in damage to Robe-Ann Park property Monday evening.

Diane Ladd, 59, Cloverdale, was driving a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder eastbound on Tennessee Street when she attempted to turn into the south entrance to the park without realizing the gate was closed.

Impact broke off a crossarm of the gate and damaged the vehicle. Total damage was estimated at $1,000-$2,500 according to Officer Nick Eastham's report.

Seven recent traffic citations were issued by city officers.

-- At 6:55 p.m. Tuesday, Mackenzie Cash, 18, Greencastle, was ticketed by Officer Eastham for 51 mph in a 30-mph zone on Fillmore Road.

-- At 1:22 a.m. Tuesday, Nathan Herron II, 22, Greenfield, was cited on Bloomington Street by Officer Eastham for having a false or fictitious registration.

-- At 4:28 p.m. Monday, Laura Dickey, 61, Greencastle, was ticketed by Officer Darrel Bunten for disregarding a stopsign at Fifth Street and Avenue B.

-- At 11:06 p.m. Saturday, Terrance Pigues, 19, Memphis, was ticketed on North Jackson Street by Officer Vaughan for passing improperly on the left.

-- At 9:45 p.m. Saturday, Ryan Evens, 31, Greencastle, was cited on Indianapolis Road by Officer Matt Huffman for having an expired license plate.

-- At 3:03 a.m. Saturday, Jordan Thomas Harris, 21, Indianapolis, was cited on Bloomington Street by Officer Vaughan for an infraction of driving with a suspended license.

-- At 1:50 p.m. Jan. 27, Kristopher Hardy, 29, Greencastle, was cited by Sgt. Chris Jones on North Vine Street for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense.

Sheriff's Department

On Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 6:58 a.m. Gregory J. Walton, 31, Rosedale, was northbound on County Road 500 East in a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado when he hit a deer.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

City Fire

On Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 1:01 p.m. the Greencastle Fire Department was dispatched to an alarm due to cooking at 807 S. College Ave. Cleared 1:10 p.m.
