Princeton man injured in I-70 accident while trying to get to hospital to see relative

Indiana State Police and Putnam County emergency agencies responded to a one-vehicle crash Monday morning on Interstate 70 near the 37-mile marker.

Preliminary investigation revealed a silver 2005 Nissan Quest SUV was eastbound on I-70, approximately four miles west of Cloverdale, when the vehicle suddenly veered to the left and struck the center guardrail.

The driver, Jeffrey Lipko, 23, Princeton, was transported by Putnam County Operation Life ambulance to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, complaining of lower back pain.

Witnesses to the crash reported that the Nissan Quest was traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed with the vehicle's emergency warning lights activated before it suddenly lost control.

Authorities said Lipko was cited for unreasonable speed.

Lipko was reportedly in a hurry to get to an Indianapolis area hospital where a family member was scheduled for treatment, Indiana State Police Public Information Officer Sgt. Joe Watts reported.

Fog was not a problem along I-70 at the time of the crash, 9:13 a.m., Watts added.

Indiana State Police Trooper Adam Edwards of the Putnamville Post investigated the crash.

Assisting Edwards were ISP Master Troopers Matt Ames and Chuck Tharp, along with Putnam County Operation Life, Cloverdale Police Department and the Cloverdale Township Fire Department personnel.
