Putnam SCWD, RC&D tree and plant sale slated

Friday, March 2, 2012

The Putnam County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) and the Sycamore Trail Resource Conservation and Development are conducting their second annual tree and plant sale.

The Putnam County SWCD's mission is to protect the soil, water and natural resources of Putnam County for future generations. Sycamore Trails RC&D Council has been a valued partner in this endeavor as their charge is resource conservation and development.

While missions may vary the end result allows for a unique fit for both agencies to protect and enhance Putnam County while providing for good land stewardship, sustainability and recreational land use.

Like last year there are bare-root 24- to 363-inch tall evergreens and deciduous trees (these are limited quantities) and native perennial plants as well.

The sale will continue until March 23 and pick-up will be on April 14 at the Goat Barn on the Putnam County Fairgrounds.

The order form can be found on the SWCD website Putnam.iaswcd.org along with information and pictures of the trees.

The native plants were picked this year to benefit pollinators. They have different flowering times and colors to attract a variety of pollinators that are disappearing as their native habitat disappears.

Anyone who has questions may contact the Putnam County SWCD at 653-5716 Ext. 3.
