Mary A. Pensinger South

Mary A. Pensinger South, 101, Veedersburg, died Friday, March 9, 2012 at St. Elizabeth Central Hospital, Lafayette.

Mrs. South was born June 9, 1910 in Brazil, the daughter of George Finley and Maggie May (Bridgewater) Houk. She married Cecil M. South on May 13, 1939 in Russellville. He preceded her in death on July 9, 1992.

Mary was formerly from Brazil, and she had lived in the Veedersburg area since 1989. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Williamsport.

She attended school in Decatur, Ill. from 1920 to 1930, and completed two years of business college in Terre Haute. She worked outside the home for 50 years as a bookkeeper and office manager for several auto agencies in Terre Haute, as well as a job placement officer for both Indiana Employment Services and Indiana Employment Security Division.

Surviving family include three sons, Larry E Pensinger and wife Rachel of Wingate, David L. South and wife Colleen of Veedersburg and Cecil Duane South and wife Nancy of Marshall; step-daughter Anna Marie Beaman of Plymouth; grandchildren, Sue Pensinger of Kokomo, Kathy (David) Kurfman of Kokomo, Shay (Amy) South of Rosedale and Debbie (Jim) Guinn of Marshall; step-grandchildren, Glenn William, Randy, Terry, Barry, and Susan Beaman; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; 10 stepgreat-grandchildren; and 11 stepgreat-great-grandchildren

She was also preceded in death by grandson Kenneth South; three brothers Ralph, Charlie and Dutch Houk; and three sisters Edith Williams, Helen Torry and Georgia Ringo.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, March 16 at Dickerson Funeral Home, 303 N. Main St., Veedersburg. Visitation will be from noon to time of service. Interment will follow service at Mt Hope Cemetery, Covington.
