Fred Skinner, 74, Rosita, Colo., died Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012 of an apparent heart attack.

He was born June 19, 1937 in Ada, Mich., to Wallace and Echo (Roberts) Skinner Sr. He attended school in Indianapolis and served as an MP in the U.S. Army from 1956-1958.

Mr. Skinner had been a resident of Custer County, Colo., since 1996, having moved from Indianapolis. Prior to his retirement he worked throughout Southern Colorado burying telephone lines.

He preferred the Catholic faith.

On May 22, 1976 in Speedway he married Tamela "Tami" Schwenn.

She survives, as do a son and two daughters, Jeff Skinner of Fillmore, Julie Chappell and husband Rick of Mooresville and Jeanna Bushong and husband Jerry of Fillmore; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two brothers; and one sister.

Also surviving is Mr. Skinner's ex-wife and best friend, Judi Skinner of Fillmore.

Mr. Skinner was preceded in death by a brother.

Memorial services will be held at a later date in Indianapolis.
