George F. Westfall

George F. Westfall, 86, Lebanon, Ind., passed away on March 7, 2012 in Palm Beach County, Florida.

Born March 26, 1925 in New Richmond, Ind., George was reared and educated in Greencastle. He attended DePauw University, and earned his master's degree at Purdue University.

He was an educator, and began his career in Liberty, Ind.

During that time he met Martha L. Cantwell, the love of his life. They were married on May 23, 1954. They settled in Lebanon, where they raised their family and continued their careers in education. He was a teacher and principal at Central, Perry Central and Stokes elementary schools. He retired from Stokes in 1985.

George was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He and Martha enjoyed spending summers at their cottage on Dogtooth Lake, just outside of Kenora, Ontario, Canada, where friends and family often visited. They often wintered in South Florida.

He was a member of the Masons, the Elks lodge (a former exalted ruler), the American Legion and the Centenary United Methodist Church, as well as a lifelong Democrat. He also served stateside in the U.S. Army.

George is survived by his loving wife Martha; his children, William (Kimberly), Priscilla (Gregg) Hart, Jay (Sandy), and Joseph; his grandchildren, Alycia and Amanda Hart, Joshua and Kara Westfall, Brendan and Kyndal Duff, and Jacob Westfall; his siblings, Ret. Capt. James (Jessie), Betty (Amos) McFarland-Thomas, and R.J. (Fan); and his in-laws, John (Penny) Cantwell, Kay (Bob) Brown, and Chris (Carla) Cantwell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jonathon and Nina (ne้ Smith), and sister Mary Lou Schnurpel.

A memorial service was held Monday, March 26 at Centenary United Methodist Church in Lebanon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the church in his name.
