Public invited to court hearing at DePauw

Wednesday, April 11, 2012

Dear members of the Greencastle community:

For the seventh time in the past eight years, DePauw University's Department of Political Science will host oral arguments before the Indiana Court of Appeals.

Open to the public, the proceedings are scheduled to begin at 2:20 p.m., Tuesday, April 17 in the Social Center in the Inn at DePauw. Normal rules of courtroom decorum will apply.

At DePauw we often have visitors speaking about public affairs. In the event next week, three Indiana Court of Appeals judges (one of whom will be the Court of Appeals Chief Judge Margret Robb) will be conducting actual state government business, not just talking about it.

The criminal case being appealed is Duane T. Lee vs. State of Indiana,

and the arguments before the three-judge Court of Appeals panel are

expected to take 40 to 50 minutes. (Those interested in further details about the case should consult the Court of Appeals website.)

At the conclusion of the oral arguments, the judges plan to answer questions from the audience, although judicial proprieties prevent them from discussing the Lee v. State of Indiana case.

On behalf of DePauw's Department of Political Science, I cordially invite interested members of the public to attend this event.
