CLOVERDALE -- In the first dual match of the season, Cloverdale's boy's golf squad picked up a win over visiting West Vigo 187-201.

In windy conditions at Clover Meadows, the two squads finished at sunset with the Clovers' Brody Pfaff picking up medalist honors with a round of 43.

Aaron Whitlock shot 46 for the hosts, while Rylan Mattocks carded a 48 and Colte Tomlinson recorded a 50.

Freddy Fislar shot 51 and Zach Hall came in with a 56 to round out the Clover golfers.

Nick Leck paced the Vikings with a 46, followed by Brandon Long's score of 49.

Cloverdale head coach Doug Wokoun said both teams were in for a surprise with the weather.

"I really think the wind, especially early, was a big deal because the players weren't prepared to deal with it," Wokoun said.

"I think everybody adjusted to it as the match progressed, but it was a big, big factor at the beginning for both teams."

With several players new to the Clover program, Wokoun said having the match at home was a boost.

"We're a young team. I think we're a lot more comfortable here. There's going to be fits and starts," Wokoun said.

"We did some good things today. We hit some good shots today, but in terms of consistency, it's still the beginning of the season."

"Our experience over at Forest Park in Brazil was the first varsity experience for four of the players. We've got a long way to go, but I like our guys' attitude and their willingness to work," Wokoun added.

"I'm seeing good things. We just need to make those things become more consistent."
