Area 30 to offer new classes next year

Wednesday, April 11, 2012

The Area 30 Career Center Board of Directors was taking care of business quickly Tuesday morning, in a meeting which lasted a mere 10 minutes.

Three new classes will be taught in the upcoming 2012-13 school year. The board approved the two new courses to be taught at South Putnam High School, Anatomy and Physiology and Advanced Life Science Animals. Engineering Design and Development will be taught at Area 30.

Board members also heard updates from Area 30 Executive Director Lora Busch on the Counselors College and Career Pathway Workshop.

Area 30 will host the all-day workshop for school counselors on April 24. Matt Fleck will facilitate the workshop and share vital information on pathway assessments, dual credits and the crosswalk.

Busch also got approval from the board for 26 students and four chaperones to attend the Skills USA contest April 13-14 at the Walker Career Center in Indianapolis.

The Skills USA student competitors will participate in the written assessment piece of their individual contests on April 13. Students will then compete in the "hands-on" portion of the contest on April 14.

Personnel hired during the meeting were Laura Elsbrock as the ABE/GED coordinator/instructor and Maureen Egold as an early childhood education instructor.

The next board meeting is scheduled for May 8 with an executive session at 8:30 a.m. and a regular meeting beginning at 9.
