North Putnam Music Department to stage 'Once Upon a Mattress'

Queen Aggravain (Gwen Mazur), Prince Dauntless (Kyle Cunningham), Winifred (Samantha Flannelly) and King Sextimus (Colton Cox) are featured in a scene from the North Putnam High School production of "Once Upon a Mattress," scheduled Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

The North Putnam High School Music Department will be presenting "Once Upon a Mattress" on Friday, April 13 and Saturday, April 14.

The performances will begin at 7:30 each night in the gymnasium of North Putnam High School.

Tickets are $5 and will be available at the door.

Set in medieval times, "Once Upon a Mattress" is loosely based on the fairy tale story "The Princess and the Pea," focusing on Prince Dauntless' (Kyle Cunningham) search for a bride.

Queen Aggravain (Gwen Mazur) creates impossible tests for each princess, including Princess No. 12 (Kayla Clodfelter) and Winifred the Woebegone (Samantha Flannelly).

Pregnant Lady Larken (Rachael Lubinski) and Sir Harry (Alan Skillern) are in a bind since they cannot marry until Dauntless does.

Other members of the kingdom include King Sextimus (Colton Cox), Minstrel (Cheyanne Elliott), Wizard (Brian Hubbard), Jester (Emmy Rees), Sir Studley (Cyle Ford), Sir Luce (Jacob Buchanan) and Lady Rowena (Ellese Cox).

Also in the kingdom are Lady Merrill (Jenna Olson), Lady Lucille (Wednesday Rees), Kitchen Wench (Jerica Bean), Lady Mabelle (Savannah Rambis), Lady Beatrice

(Sydney Harmon) and Knights (Cody Smith, Andrew Rude and Logan Grim).

Supporting the cast are ladies-in-waiting and wenches, played by Elizabeth Alford, Audrey Barger, Madison Carnes, Cassie Clark, Jessica Games, Micah Grim, Emma Holsapple, Justice Honey, Kayla Land, Natalie McFadden, Rachel Moore, Amy Olson, Paige Patterson and Lacy Taylor.

Kelly Thomas will be producing the show and Kathi Elliott will be directing.

Thomas also serves as the vocal director and choreographer. Elliott will play the piano with orchestral accompaniment under the direction of Rachel Pierce.

Linda Gjesvold is the set designer and technical director for the show.

Alex Wittig is in charge of sound.

Micayla Jones and Christina Lewark will run the lights. Stage crew includes Jacob Buchanan, Richard Elliott, Makaela Hudson, Trevor Troyer and Nate Woolums.

Members of the orchestra pit are Rachael Campbell, Lance Clodfelter, Megan Cochran, Davin Faries, Crystal Hart, Andrea Higgins, Brittany Higgins, Haley Hourihan, Bret Huber, Sara Kippert, Amanda Modlin, Trey Ritter, Kelsey Summerlot and Taylor Thornell.
