Eagles shut down Mustangs for 12-2 win

ELLETSVILLE -- The South Putnam softball team took care of Edgewood 12-2 in six innings Thursday to cruise to its ninth win of the season. Big hits and strong pitching was the perfect formula for the Eagles on the night.

Jenna Jones led the Eagles, going 3-for-3 at the plate with three RBI, three runs scored, two doubles and a home run. Mattie Varvel added a home run and two RBI. Janet Craft connected for two hits, with three RBI and a double.

Jenny Thompson was 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored, while MaKenzie Trisler added two hits, two RBI and two runs scored. Kelsey Whitaker had two hits and scored twice.

Brooke Boetjer pitched six innings, with no earned runs, four strikeouts and four hits.

The Eagles are ranked No.1 in Class 2A and are currently on a 34-game winning streaks that dates back to April 9 of last year.

South Putnam will travel to North Montgomery today at 5 p.m.
