Putnam County property tax bills mailed, due May 10

Monday, April 16, 2012

Putnam County Treasurer Sharon Owens said Friday property tax bills have been mailed and taxpayers should expect to receive their bills this week. The first installment for property tax is due on Thursday, May 10.

The county is again offering taxpayers four different options for paying 2012 property taxes.

* Property tax payments may be mailed to Putnam County Treasurer, P.O. Box 508, Greencastle, IN 46135. For a receipt, enclose a self-addressed envelope.

All mailed payments must be postmarked by May 10 to avoid a late penalty charge.

* The taxes may also be paid at Old National Bank, First National Bank, North Salem State Bank or Tri-County State Bank. In order for the bank to process the payment, residents must provide the bank with their tax statement.

* Payments are also welcomed in the Putnam County Treasurer's Office located on the second floor of the Putnam County Courthouse. Office hours are Monday through Friday 8 a.m.--4 p.m.

The courthouse and treasurer's office will be closed on Election Day, Tuesday, May 8.

* Taxpayers will also again have the option of making the tax payment with a credit card or debit card. This option is available online at www.putnamtax.net or by calling 1-800-809-5849. There is a processing fee associated with the online or phone payment option.

No credit or debit card payments are accepted in the treasurer's office.

Owens also wished to remind Heritage Lake property owners with a May exceptional benefit payment that those are also due on Thursday, May 10.

Anyone with questions may contact the Putnam County Treasurer's Office at treasurer@putnamcountyin.us or 653-4510.
