Head Start to celebrate Week of the Young Child

Wednesday, April 18, 2012

To the Editor:

Putnam County Head Start will be joining early childhood educators around the country in celebrating Week of the Young Child -- April 22-28.

The annual celebration, sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, focuses on the needs of young children and their families and recognizes the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs.

We can show support for early learning in our community by promoting early literacy programs, thanking teachers who care for our children, and working to ensure that our public policies support early learning for all young children.

Week of the Young Child is a time to remind us that "Early Years are Learning Years." You can support early learning in Putnam County by making a donation to Imagination Library, a program of the Putnam County Public Library. Free books are sent to children ages 0-5 every month at no cost to their families.

At Head Start we will be having Penny Wars to support Imagination Library. We will also be having a Family Fun Night at the library on April 24. Families will be able to sign up for a library card, play games and make crafts.

Join us as we celebrate Week of the Young Child.
