Monday, April 23, 2012

Local playwright Steve Timm will present a noon brown bag talk titled "Alligators, Bobcat and a Broken Canoe: Writing my Way through the Everglades" on Thursday, April 26 at the Putnam County Public Library.

The event is part of the library's Passport Travel program. Participants are encouraged to bring their passports to be stamped -- or pick one up at the library -- and be entered for prizes to be given in the fall.

Timm recently returned from a six-week canoe and kayak excursion in Florida on the Suwannee River, the Everglades and the coastal waters in the 10,000 Islands. He will discuss how his wilderness adventures and his encounters with man and beast fuel his writing.

Timm is the author of "Steve Here --> X", a series of monologues based on his forays into wilderness areas including Isle Royale, the boundary waters, Utah's Green River and the Aldo Leopold and Gila Wilderness areas in New Mexico.

His current project is titled "365 Nights in a Tent" and selections from these monologues will be performed at DePauw University in November 2013. The author of More 30 produced plays.

He is currently a Professor of Communication and Theatre and the John Raab Emison Professor of Creative and Performing Arts at DePauw University.
