Watershed funding available in Putnam, Boone, Hendricks counties

Monday, May 7, 2012

The Big Walnut Watershed Alliance (BWWA) has been awarded funds to assist landowners in several watersheds in Putnam, Boone and Hendricks Counties.

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management, Watershed Management Section, has provided funding through their Section 319 Program. Landowners in the Clear Creek Watershed in Putnam County are eligible for cost share funds through a state Lake and River Enhancement (LARE) grant.

Funds are for cost share to help landowners install conservation practices to help reduce soil erosion and improve or maintain water quality.

Conservation practices that are eligible for cost share assistance include livestock/grazing practices, nutrient management, erosion control structures and other water quality improving practices.

Through the Big Walnut Creek Watershed Alliance a study was completed identifying watersheds that are impaired throughout the three-county area. Funding is limited to certain watersheds with determined impairments issues.
