Fire heavily damages house on U.S. 231 South
A fire destroyed part of a home south of Greencastle Wednesday morning, and the firefighting efforts affected traffic on U.S. 231 for more than an hour.
At 9:56 a.m. the Greencastle Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire at 3161 U.S. 231 South. At least eight other local departments were dispatched to assist with the blaze.
Most of the south end of the house was destroyed, including what appeared to be an addition and a garage.
A mass of fire trucks on U.S. 231 had traffic stopped in both directions until one lane was reopened at 10:55 a.m.
One semi driver who was northbound reported being stopped in traffic for approximately one hour and 15 minutes.
No further information was available from the Greencastle Fire Department as of late Wednesday morning.
The house is immediately north of Harmony Baptist Church, which is housed in the former Omar Bakery building, as well as a one-time home of Taylor Graphics.
Story will be updated when more information becomes available.
