Sam Gould wins Chamber's Senior Student Athlete Award

South Putnam senior Sam Gould was named the 2012 Greencastle Chamber of Commerce Male Senior Student Athlete Award winner.

South Putnam senior Sam Gould was recently named the Greencastle Chamber of Commerce Male Senior Student Athlete Award winner at the South Putnam awards banquet.

Gould is the Valedictorian of his senior class with a 4.30 GPA as well as the 2012 Lilly Scholarship winner. He was Academic All-State for football, a state qualifier for the Academic Super Bowl, Academic All-Star for the Indianapolis Colts, Academic All-WVCA his junior and senior year and the Mark Wildman Football Leadership Scholarship winner.

Gould is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Student Council, the Putnam County Youth Philanthropy, Academic Super Bowl (math, science, interdisciplinary) and the student body president as well as other numerous achievements.

In the sports realm, Gould was Academic All-State for football, All-County punter, two-time Regional Qualifier in diving, All-County diver, All-WCC diver and a member of the 2011 sectional championship football team.

"Sam is an outstanding student and a tremendous young person," South Putnam athletic director Matt Griswold said. "He is a talented and positive leader in the classroom, on our sports teams and in our community.

"On the field or in the classroom, Sam leads with a special type of quiet modesty that has gained the respect and trust of classmates, coaches, teachers, teammates and opponents," Griswold added.

The Chamber of Commerce Student Athlete Award also has a $250 scholarship sponsored by Teacher's Credit Union.
