David Herrold

David Herrold, age 69, of Greencastle, died May 31, 2012 at his residence.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 10 in Meharry Hall of East College at DePauw University.

A reception will be held immediately following the service at the home he shared with his wife, Susannah Hardesty.

Born on Nov. 5, 1942 in St. Paul, Minn., he married Susannah in 2005, and she survives.

He is also survived by his children, Jennifer Herrold, Greencastle, and Ryan Herrold and wife Jennifer (Contrucci) Herrold, Brooklyn, N.Y., and granddaughter Veronica; stepdaughter Kristin Seahorn and husband Grady, Greencastle, and granddaughters Rebecca and Riley; stepdaughter Keri Bielitz and husband Damian, Sugar Land, Texas, and grandchildren Trent, Britton, Blaine and Trevor.

He is also survived by his mother, Charlotte Herrold, Wichita, Kan.; sisters Susan Parry, Scottsdale, Ariz., and Peggy Holman and husband Gerry, Wichita, Kan.; brother, Steven Herrold, Topeka, Kan., and five nieces and nephews.

David's father, William Herrold preceded him in death.

David graduated from Emporia State University with a B.A. of Fine Arts and received an M.F.A. in ceramics from Wichita State University in 1972, after which he joined the faculty at DePauw University.

Although ceramics was his specialty, over his 36-year career in the Art and Art History Department, David taught a variety of other courses, including photography, computer animation and art history.

After his retirement in 2008, David enjoyed designing and building fine woodwork, making and sharing art with his children and grandchildren, sharing time with Susannah, family and close friends both at their Greencastle home and their Owen County lake cabin.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be given in David's name to the Mental Health America of Putnam County. Checks may be sent directly to Mental Health America of Putnam County, 10½ N. Jackson St., Greencastle, IN 46135, with a note specifically stating the gift is in memory of David Herrold, per the family's wishes.
