ParkFest kicks off with VanTerry, Tim Brickley

Monday, June 4, 2012

The opening night of ParkFest 2012 is slated for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Robe-Ann Park Bandshell with a performance from Tim Brickley, followed by ParkFest staples VanTerry.

Tim Brickley

Tim Brickley is a singer/songwriter, producer/engineer and rock/jazz bandleader from Indianapolis. He writes songs with Seattle-based poet and visual artist David Rheins.

Tim owns and produces a wide variety of projects at his studio in the happening Sobro area of Indianapolis, Hit City Recording, including his "Different Beat Radio" show/podcast, which is available at www.timbrickley,com and on iTunes.

He sings jazz with his quintet and big band, and is a longtime collaborator with Bryan Fonseca at the Phoenix Theatre in Indianapolis, as musical director, sound designer and composer.

An actor, he starred in the Phoenix 2010 original production "Pure Prine."

VanTerry, the duo of Mike Van Rensselaer and Steve Terry, has performed at festivals, schools, and a variety of other venues for 25 years.

Van Rensselaer, a retired Greencastle Middle School teacher, and Terry, a Bloomington mail carrier, feature an acoustic old time folk sound with guitar, mandolin and banjo picking, along with harmonizing vocals and storytelling.

Their performances vary from focusing on specific subjects (American History/Character Education, Indiana folk music, traditional Irish tunes) to an eclectic mix for each of their ParkFest concerts since 1994.

Steve Terry and Mike VanRensselaer are VanTerry.

This year their song selections will range from a commemoration of the 150 year anniversary of the Civil War to an original Terry ballad, from county patriarchs Hank Williams and Jimmie Rodgers to Roy Rogers, from father of bluegrass Bill Monroe to Neil Young.

ParkFest is a 10-concert musical celebration in Robe-Ann Park, with performances on Tuesday evenings at 6:30 p.m.
