Zumba party in the lot

Friday, June 15, 2012

The Bainbridge Improvement Society is hosting a free Zumba party on Saturday, June 16 from 7:45 to 10:30 p.m. behind the Bainbridge community building.

Nikki Gilbert is hosting the event. She is an AFAA certified licensed Zumba instructor that teaches eight classes per week around Putnam County.

"It's just for fun," Gilbert said, "Just to kind of get the word out there about Zumba. It's open to spectators."

Gilbert teaches Zumba classes at the Bainbridge community center, among other places, during the week. She was hired by B.I.S. in March.

"When they come, it's $4," Gilbert said. "There's no commitment, no contracts."

The two-hour marathon event on Saturday will be at no charge.

Doors open at 7:45 with the dancing set to begin at 8:30.

Dancing outside, under the lights, will be a fun experience.

There will be a D.J. there playing music that will fill the air and hopefully, Gilbert said, draw in a crowd.

A normal class for her will be 10-25 people.

On Saturday Gilbert said that while she expects around 100 people, she is hoping for a lot more.

"Yes, it's exercise, it's fitness," Gilbert said, "but it's also about the community."
