Saturday, June 16, 2012

DANVILLE -- With Secretary of State Connie Lawson's former seat in the Indiana Senate filled for the rest of the year, the Indiana Republican Party is moving on to filling Lawson's spot on the ballot.

The GOP will host a caucus on Wednesday, June 20 to fill the ballot vacancy for Indiana Senate District 24. The caucus will take place at 6 p.m. at the Hendricks County Government Center, 355 S. Washington St., Suite 218, Danville.

Precinct committee members of the newly redrawn District 24 will chose the candidate.

In Putnam County, the district includes all of Russell, Franklin, Jackson, Clinton, Monroe, Floyd, Madison and Marion townships, as well as five precincts in Greencastle Township: Greencastle North, Limedale, First North, Second East and Second West.

Lawson resigned the post in March after Gov. Mitch Daniels appointed her secretary of state. On April 7, Pete Miller was chosen to fill the remainder of her term.

Wednesday's caucus will determine who will run in November's election for the right to fill the seat for the next two years.
