New round of street closings includes 231/Bloomington St.
Greencastle Mayor Sue Murray has announced a list of expected road closures and disruptions that local residents may anticipate for the week of June18.
-- Locust Street will remain closed at the Anderson Street intersection adjacent to DePauw University's East College. That closing began June 11 and could last up to 45 days.
-- U.S. 231/Bloomington Street will be closed at the Anderson Street intersection for up to five days during this initial closing.
-- The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is planning a project involving the milling and resurfacing of U.S. 231/Bloomington Street between Washington and Seminary streets on Monday and Tuesday (June 18-19), weather permitting.
-- Indiana Street will be closed from Washington Street south to the alley next to Cinergy Metronet for up to five days.
"This construction season is indeed filled with challenges," Mayor Murray conceded, "and I want to thank you, in advance, for your patience. We will be sending out notifications regularly to keep you apprised of traffic concerns."
In weeks to come, closures on Albin Pond Road for the upcoming dam repair project and other Stellar Project-related street closings and delays for construction will be necessary, Mayor Murray said.
Meanwhile, the Bloomington Street construction closing will create an additional problem on Anderson Street, which is normally one-way eastbound from Bloomington Street to Wood Street.
To keep Anderson Street residents who live west of Arlington and east of Bloomington from being isolated without a legal way to drive to their homes, two-way traffic will be allowed on Anderson between Arlington and Bloomington during any construction closures, the City Council has agreed.
However, the section east of Arlington to Wood street will remain one-way eastbound since that portion of Anderson Street can be accessed by taking Seminary Street and turning south onto Arlington Street and then turning east (left) onto Anderson.
