Greencastle School Board to meet again Monday

Wednesday, June 27, 2012

The Greencastle Community School Board will again meet in an executive session and a special public meeting on Monday, July 2.

According to Indiana code, a board must disclose the reason for meeting in a non-public meeting before doing so.

Among the listed purposes of Monday's 4 p.m. executive session is the discussion of personnel matters, including receiving information on alleged misconduct and discussion of job performance.

Additionally, the listed purpose of the 6 p.m. public meeting is consideration of a personnel issue.

At a special public meeting last Saturday the board placed corporation Chief Financial Officer Clayton Slaughter on paid administrative leave.

The board is questioning why more than $3 million in undeposited checks were found in the CFO's office -- 119 checks, some of which were dated as far back as March 3.

According to state law, any funds paid to a public entity "shall be deposited not later than the business day following the receipt of funds."

Slaughter is on a remote camping trip in Canada, and will not return to work until Monday. While Slaughter is not expressly mentioned as the purpose of Monday's meetings, they fall on the same day he is scheduled to return.

Board President Bruce Stinebrickner did say on Saturday that the CFO would have a chance to defend his actions before the matter was considered further.
