Thursday, June 28, 2012

BRAZIL -- The Brazil Concert Band, under the direction of Matthew S. Huber, presents "The Stars and Stripes Forever" in a special edition show, complete with intermission, of patriotic favorites Sunday, July 1 at the special time of 7:30 p.m. at Forest Park, rain or shine.

The BCB will present Overture "1812" by Tschaikowsky in a wind band transcription by M. L. Lake from the Sousa Band era.

The classic "1812" will be performed in full with all the beautiful melodies, bells and gunshots.

By tradition, the BCB will honor all veterans with "Armed Forces Salute" by Lowden and pay tribute to the Greatest Generation with "The Homefront: Musical Memories from World War II" arranged by Christensen.

"The Fourth of July," which contains nearly all the best patriotic melodies and arranged by Cacavas will set the all-American mood for the evening.

All-time favorites "America the Beautiful" arranged by Dragon and Meacham's marching medley, "American Patro," are staples with any BCB patriotic show.

Marches will include "Man of the Hour" by Fillmore, "Emblem of Unity" by Richards, "Legion of Honor" by Jewell, "Emblem of Freedom" by King and three of Sousa's all-time classics, "Semper Fidelis," "The Washington Post" and "Stars and Stripes Forever."

Janelle R. Huber will begin the evening with Sousa's version of "The Star-Spangled Banner."

  • When are they performing in Greencastle, as they have for every year over the past twenty or so?? I heard they were not invited to the Civic League's Concert in the Park series this year! Why would they be excluded and is there any way to get them to perform here anyway? Please Civic League reconsider this decision for the future years.
