Firefly hunt at McCloud

Saturday, June 30, 2012

There may not be 10,000 of them, and they may not teach you how to dance, but there will surely be fireflies to catch and release at McCloud Nature Park on Saturday, July 7 at 9 p.m.

Naturalists will conduct a brief presentation on the life cycle and habits of fireflies, teaching about the process of bioluminescence.

Following that the park workers will lead a catch-and-release firefly hunt on the trail.

Registration is required for the free program, which is designed for all ages and will last about an hour.

To reserve a spot for your family call the park office at (317) 718-6188.

The park recommends participants wear sturdy shoes and bring mosquito repellant.

McCloud Nature Park is operated by Hendricks County Parks and Recreation and is located five minutes south of North Salem at 8518 North Hughes Road.

Admission is always free and the park is open daily from dawn to dusk.
