City Police

Six recent traffic accidents were investigated by Greencastle City Police officers.

-- At 5:46 a.m. July 8, a minor mishap was reported in the Walmart store parking lot.

James Perdue, 62, Greencastle, was reportedly pulling into a parking space in a 2008 Volkswagen Jetta when the car suddenly accelerated and struck a parked, unoccupied 2001 Ford, owned by Charles Green Sr., Greencastle.

Sgt. Terry Eastham listed total damage at $2,500-$5,000.

-- At 3:14 p.m. July 6, a two-vehicle accident occurred on Indianapolis Road as Michael Blue, 29, Greencastle, was driving a 1995 Chevrolet truck when he reportedly looked down for something in the cab.

That allowed his vehicle to strike the rear of a stopped 1996 Dodge Caravan, driven by James Lantzy, 39, Rockville, police said.

Officer Jeff Modlin estimated total damage at $1,000-$2,500.

-- At 9:18 a.m. July 6, a two-car accident was reported on Indianapolis Road, just west of Fifth Street.

James Price, 81, Greencastle, was leaving Superwash in a 2011 Buick Lucerne, turning east on Indianapolis Road.

Capt. Mike Hanlon reported that Price failed to see an eastbound 1996 Chevrolet Corsica, and pulled into the path of the car driven by Haley Wagoner, 20, Fillmore.

Total damage was listed at $5,000-$10,000.

-- At 3:55 p.m. July 4, a one-vehicle accident at Washington and Wood streets reportedly knocked out power and caused some electrical equipment problems for neighboring homes.

Officer Ed Wilson reported that Daylene Collier, 22, Roachdale, was eastbound on Washington Street, driving a 2001 Chrysler Sebring when she reportedly dropped her lighter on the floor and attempted to retrieve it.

As she reached down, the car veered off the roadway and struck a utility pole.

Total damage was estimated at $5,000-$10,000.

-- At 3:30 pm. June 30, a two-vehicle accident was reported at Bloomington and Martinsville streets.

Krystine Albright, 67, Cloverdale, was northbound on Bloomington Street, driving a 2002 Chevrolet Venture, owned by Putnam County Comprehensive Services. As she approached Martinsville Street, a 2000 Dodge Durango entered the roadway in front of her, driven by Christine Golden, 35, Greencastle, and a collision occurred.

Sgt. Chris Jones estimated total damage at $1,000-$2,500.

-- At 6:54 p.m. June 28, a two-car mishap occurred on Indianapolis Road east of Auto Zone.

Michael Smith, 52, Greencastle, was attempting to enter Indianapolis Road from Greenwood Drive in a 2004 Ford Crown Victoria. Smith was waved into westbound traffic by a stopped motorist.

However, the would-be good samaritan did not account for a westbound 2009 Volkswagen Jetta, driven by Joclyn Stephenson, 39, Coatesville, and a collision occurred.

Officer Wilson listed total damage at $2,500-$5,000.
