New Probationary Troopers to patrol Putnam County
PUTNAMVILLE -- Thirty-eight new probationary troopers from the 71st Indiana State Police Recruit Academy have been issued their squad cars at the ISP garage located at the Indianapolis District
Three of the troopers have been assigned to the Indiana State Police Putnamville Post and have started solo patrol in the district, which covers Putnam, Parke, Vermillion, Vigo, Clay and Sullivan counties.
The probationary officers recently completed a three-month field training period with veteran troopers and will serve a one-year probationary period before attaining permanent status as a trooper.
In addition to the field training, the new officers received approximately 917 hours of structured training in law enforcement techniques when they were assigned to Indiana State Police Recruit Academy. The curriculum included criminal and traffic law instruction, emergency vehicle operations training, psychology and various other areas of law enforcement academia.
Probationary troopers also developed skills in criminal investigation, vehicle crash investigation, and impaired driver prevention and detection.
Assigned to the Indiana State Police Putnamville Post were:
-- Probationary Trooper Jonathan M. Cumbie of Danville, who is a member of the Indiana National Guard. He is assigned to patrol Putnam County.
-- Probationary Trooper Yan J. Dravigne is a native of Canada who attended Algonquin College in Ottawa. A former K-9 officer for the Indiana Department of Correction and most recently a civilian Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement officer with ISP, Dravigne is assigned to patrol Putnam County.
Probationary Trooper Michael L. Featherling is a native of Illinois who attended both Lakeland College in Illinois and the University of Indianapolis on baseball scholarships while studying criminal justice. He is assigned to patrol Clay County.
