PCSWCD to offer forestry field day on August 18

Putnam County Soil and Water Conservation District, in conjunction with Sycamore Trails RC&D, will be sponsoring a forestry field day on Saturday, Aug.18 from 9 a.m. until noon.

Allen Royer, IDNR district forester, will be the host. Participants will be meeting at Wagoner Christmas Tree Farm northwest of Greencastle with registration to begin at 8:30 a.m.

It will be a walking event on uneven ground. Anyone who needs seating is asked to provide his or her own lawn chairs.

Several topics will be addressed regarding timber. Benefits of classified forests, timberstand improvement and forest best management practices (BMPs), tree plantings spanning 30 years of growth, Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) tree plantings and invasive plant control are among some of the topics that will be discussed.

Reservations are required and can be made by calling 653-5716 ext. 3 before Aug. 10 to reserve a spot (leave your name and phone number where you can be reached should there be a need to contact you).

Rain date for this field day is Aug. 25 in case of inclement weather on Aug. 18.
