Taste of Putnam County set for Sept. 15

Monday, August 20, 2012

The 2012 Taste of Putnam County is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 15 at the Dixie Chopper Business Center.

The third annual Greater Greencastle Chamber of Commerce event is set for 4-8 p.m. at the business center at the Putnam County Airport on Ballard Lane in Greencastle.

Joining the Chamber and Dixie Chopper Business Center are corporate sponsors for the ever-growing event: The Banner Graphic, Big Bounce House Fun Rentals, Bittles and Hurt/Hopkins-Rector funeral homes, Comcast Business Class, Duke Energy, Greencastle Offset Printing and Graphics, Putnam County Hospital, University Lending and Walmart Distribution.

Putnam County restaurants and food vendors participating in this year's Taste are: Almost Home, Asbury Towers, Chief's, Downtown Deli, Final Approach Restaurant and Pub, Humble Pie, Inn at DePauw (2 West), Mill Pond Health Campus, Moore's Bar and Grill, and Pizza King.

The local eateries will be bringing several dishes for the public to sample and enjoy. And as visitors are enjoying the cuisine, they will have the opportunity to vote for the evening's "Best Restaurant" and the restaurant with the most voted will be awarded the Taste of Putnam County Traveling Plate.

The Plate was warded to Final Approach at the 2011 Taste event.

While food is, of course, the main attraction of the Taste of Putnam County it is definitely not all this event has to offer. Live music is set throughout the day with featured artists Anthony Mullis, Barbara Ellen and Mary Michael.

Also on tap are a bounce house and free children's games (sponsored and operated by First Financial Bank, Old National Bank, PNC Bank, Putnam County Comprehensive Services and Sunshine Cleaning Service).

Also featured will be a cornhole game, a chance to win a 51-inch Samsung flat-screen TV and a beer garden.

Tickets for the Taste event are $5 each (age 12 and under are admitted free with an adult) and are now available at both the Greater Greencastle Chamber of Commerce office at 16 S. Jackson St., or at the Dixie Chopper Business Center, 102 Ballard Lane.

Tickets also will be available the evening of the event.
