Madonna May Hammond

Madonna May Hammond, age 98, of Greencastle, passed away on Monday, Aug. 27, 2012 at Hendricks Regional Health in Danville.

Born Jan. 13, 1914 in Putnam County, she was the daughter of Clyde and Claudia (Crawley) Grimes and was a 1932 graduate of Greencastle High School.

She married Herschel L. Hammond on July 24, 1950, and he survives.

Madonna retired from Central National Bank, having been with the bank for more than 30 years.

She was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ, American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, Ladies of the Elks and the Windy Hill Country Club Ladies Golf Association.

Survivors include her husband; sisters-in-law Margaret, Mary and Charlotte; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Arthur Ray and Chester Lloyd Grimes; and a sister, Betty Eiteljorge.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30 at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Rev. Dr. Paul Champion officiating.

Interment will follow at the Forest Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 11 a.m. Thursday until time of service.
