South Putnam competes at Jon Mitchell Invite

CLAYTON -- The South Putnam cross country teams traveled to Cascade to compete in the Jon Mitchell Invite Saturday. The boys placed fifth, while the girls came in seventh.

For the boys, Hunter Barr led the way with a fifth-place finish in a time of 16:54. Berndt Freeman was 17th in a time of 18:12, while Matt Allen was 29th in a time of 18:50 and Matt Lund was 30th in a time of 18:56.

Lane Franklin finished in 38th with a time of 19:32, with Colton Bunten placing 49th in 20:12 and Cody Evans was 50th in 20:19.

Madie Egold paced the girls' with a 10th place finish in a time of 21:17. Julianna DeLano was 24th with a time of 22:45 and Mallory Glaze was 36th with a time of 23:35. Jessica Jones finished 39th in a time of 24 minutes flat.

Michaela Scales led a trio of runners that logged finishes in the top 50. Scales was 43rd in a time of 24:10, with Angel Nield finished 45th in a time of 24:21 and Hannah Jones was 47th in a time of 24:26.

Head coach Brandon Welti said all of his runners either ran personal or season bests during the event. But he also pointed out the team still has a lot of work to do if it wants to compete with its sectional opponents.

South Putnam will compete at the Northview Invite Tuesday at 5 p.m.
